How do I change Lock Screen Date Format

Until iOS 11.2, the date on the lock screen followed the Language and Region format as per the example on the bottom of the settings page. My region is Australia so the date is formatted (and shown in the example) Friday, 8 December.

After upgrading to iOS 11.2 it displays the lock screen date Fri, 8 Dec. I have plenty of screen available to display the full date which I prefer. I cannot find how to change the date format on the lock screen to follow the region settings and not be abbreviated.
