Quick Start won’t work with iOS mismatch?

I just got a new iPhone X and am preparing to activate it. In reading about moving the content from my old iPhone 6, I was quite excited to read about Quick Start. However, I came across something that suggested that Quick Start will not work if the version of iOS on the old phone is newer than that on the new phone. I updated to iOS 11.2 on my 6 over the weekend and can’t imagine that is the version on the X that arrived today. Is this going to cause problems with Quick Start? If so, is there a workaround? (If not, I’d appreciate the reassurance. 😉)

Update the iPhone X to the latest version of iOS first, then go into Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Settings and it will take it back to new.

Hi Bob,

In order for the iPhone X to work with the restore process, it has to either be on a higher version of iOS than the previous device or the same one

You will most likely get an iphone X in that is not updated to 11.2

Therefore, update the iPhone X

Then, you can begin the reset and migration process

No Worries! You will be fine.

As I recall (with 95% certainty), when I got my iPhone X three weeks ago, my previous iPhone had iOS 11.1.2, while the iPhone X came with iOS 11.1. I did the Quick Start, then Settings > General > Software Update on the iPhone X, and finally restored my old iPhone's backup to the iPhone X.

So I believe the iOS version mismatch worked just fine for the Quick Start. (I am confidant it would have failed on the restore.)
