iCloud (5 GB) is almost full, but Im only using it for backup (1.9 GB)

A few days ago my iPhone was complaining about not being able to backup to iCloud due to not enough free storage.

I only use my iCloud (5 GB) for backup from my iPhone and iPad, not anything else like photo lib. etc.

I have checked my how much space my two backups is using and it is 1.9 GB in total, but as seen on the image there is 2.7 GB of documents.

User uploaded file

I have done the following to find and/or delete the 2.7 GB, but without any luck.

- Logged into to www.icloud.com and checked if there are any files there, but everything is empty.

- Disabled backup om my iPhone and iPad, deleted the backups on iCloud and then enabled backup again.

- Deleted my photo stream including emptying recently deleted.

- Disabled iCloud on my two iOS devices.

I just cant get rid of the 2.7 GB of documents in iCloud, so I have tried calling Apple support, but their phone system must be broken. I enter my details on their website, wait 2 minutes for my phone to ring, the machine tells me to press 1 for support or 2 to rescedule the call. NOTHING happens when I press either. The machine tells me, that Apple has tried to contact me, but I didnt answer my phone?! I have tried this for 3 days now in different time slots: morning, noon and evening.

Any ideas on how to fix this or how to contact Apple support, will be appreciated.

Hi sbygel,

It looks like your app data may be a big part of your storage. One app is taking up quite a bit

Are you calling 1 800 MY APPLE for N America?

It's a shame you can't get through, as you could screen share which helps even more

They have a chat option as well under the Support tab on apple.com in the Contact us section.

You could delete everything from icloud via your phone, then make sure apps & all else are turned off before backing up after.

This is what icloud backs up - apart from the backup of your device:

Here’s what iCloud Backup includes

  • App data
  • Apple Watch backups
  • Call history
  • Device settings
  • HomeKit configuration
  • Home screen and app organization
  • iMessage, text (SMS), and MMS messages
  • Photos and videos on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch1
  • Purchase history from Apple services, like your music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books2
  • Ringtones
  • Visual Voicemail password (requires the SIM card that was in use during backup)

Your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch backup only include information and settings stored on your device. It doesn’t include the information already stored in iCloud, like Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, Mail, Notes, shared photos, iCloud Photo Library, My Photo Stream, Health data, and files you store in iCloud Drive.

1. If you turn on iCloud Photo Library on your device, your photos and videos are already stored in iCloud, so they aren't included in your iCloud backup.

I would look in those areas and make sure they're not listed under iCloud if you don't need a backup of that info and want the 2.7 gb
