Audiobooks appear duplicated in iTunes after update

Since updating to 12.7.2.58 two days ago, the majority of my Audiobooks appear as duplicated in iTunes. The files themselves don't appear to be duplicated, but when going to listen to Audiobooks within the iTunes desktop app, there are 3-4 duplicates of each book showing.

Here's what worked for me:

User uploaded file

  1. select [Audiobooks]
  2. View → Show View Options →
    1. View As: List
    2. Sort by: Album

It is a display bug that affects some sort orders in the Audiobooks and Authors views in iTunes 12.7.2.x, and only when there are multiple chapters that are not in a standardised <Book>, Part ## form. Workarounds are to choose a different sort order, filter the display so that you can see single books, create a smart playlist that contains your audiobooks, which doesn't suffer from the same bug, tweak the sort names of your audiobook chapters using a script, or revert to an older build of iTunes while waiting for the next one. Apple should be aware of the issue by now and it will hopefully be fixed in the next release. It has no impact on the ability to sync content from iTunes to your device even if it is somewhat confusing.

I am having the same issue! Tried correcting with the view options like several stated - thought hallelujah it is fixed and well it did fix the ones that were showing up as duplicated but as I scrolled through my list - one's that hadn't been duplicated are now duplicated and the ones that initially were are not. What the heck man. How long will it take for Apple to come out with another update to correct this? Please don't make us wait forever. It's already been nearly a month - help us out.

I'm sorry but have to voice a BIG complaint here. APPLE you are a huge company - have you gotten so big in the head that you feel it is no longer necessary to test your product updates before they are released? Do you not have a test system that you could run the updates on BEFORE you screw up all our systems?????? If this keeps up - you won't be a huge company any more. Have some QUALITY CONTROL common since. There is a good word, "QUALITY", maybe you should have a meeting on that at your office. I know folks make mistakes, that's part of being human - however you have a lot of egg on your face from this one in my opinion.

On to even another issue that I found while trying to respond to this Comment. I clicked the reply button - it tells me I need to create a user ID - no problem I do that - afterward I expected to be brought back to the link I tried to reply on, why am I not surprised that it took me to the beginning causing me to totally re-search for this comment to reply to it. (this wouldn't have been a problem except that I had tried looking this issue up several ways and couldn't remember which way had finally worked). Come on guys - get it together. If I am wanting to reply, and have to stop and create an id - which I didn't mind at all - please take me back to where I was before - don't make me waste 20 minutes of my time trying to relocated a post. Even AMAZON has a "Continue Shopping" button after I add something to my cart. I'm already upset because the update isn't working like it should have because some yahoo didn't do his / her job, now I'm just completely frustrated with you!

None of this is your best GAME! What has happened???

Does anyone know when the next updated is coming and "IF" it will contain a fix for the AudioBooks Grid View?

Thank you - to all those that let me vent 😁 I really like my Apple stuff. I have the Phone, Pad, and Pod and use them all daily and am even considering (will think on this awhile longer) making the jump to the computer. This, to me, just seemed so simple, that it shouldn't have been missed.

I'll join the list of frustrated iTunes users whose audiobooks have multiplies out of control. My authors (grid view) is not affected however if I want to view all audiobooks then several of the titles are duplicated throughout the library. Some as many as 30 times! With a library of hundreds of books this is extremely frustrating. I've applied the fix suggested of changing to list view, where the duplicates disappear but I much prefer the visually appealing grid view.

When is Apple going to get on the ball and fix this pervasive problem? (iTunes version 12.7.2.60)

I have this problem too, and it's very annoying. Does anyone else have an issue with iTunes only uploading half of your audiobook? My 25-hour book keeps showing up as 12.5 hours, but when I listen to it on my phone, it plays beyond 12.5 hours. If I pause it, it returns to the 12.5 hour mark and will not allow me to skip forward. I'm about to lose my mind.

This solution works, some of which was discovered in talking with Apple and some discovered in trial and error.

- in the audioBook view (screen) in iTunes, make sure to set the viewing preference to View - Show View Options with 'View as' set to Grid, 'Sort by' set to Author and 'then' set to Year

- in the sorting tab for audioBook content, make sure that the duplicate 'sort as' field for each of title chapter and author are an exact match

- when formatting audioBook content, make sure to leave the 'composer' field in each of the details and sorting tabs blank, and wherein you have more than one audioBook from the same author, make sure that the individual books use a a different year in the 'year' field of the details tab to avoid fragmenting content as previously experienced after an update to the iTunes software

Well, like the rest of you I’m not real happy with Apple on this either. I don’t have a huge audiobook library but it’s Not small either. I appreciate each of you who try to help. When I open mine up it’s just like yours all duplicates with the exception of about the bottom third of my list. Those show correctly. When I try to apply your fix. It corrects most of the ones that were wrong, however the ones that had been right are now duplicated a million times like the others were. This is so crazy! Does anyone know if they plan to fix this any time soon? Also wondering if anyone else is having trouble loading new books, I am?

Thanks
