I am surprise to see this problem is only concerning the iPhoneX, because since june 2017 I have this exact same issue with an iPhone 6s. 😕
I had several contacts with Apple Customer services in Ireland. They are very nice. We tried everything even changing the device. Still the disturbing problem with the incoming call display didn't go away.
A funny story : when I changed the device at the Opera Store in Paris, the Apple representative told me that it was because of my use of the phone.
Ah… 😮 Yes indeed I have 25k contacts on iCloud, this is probably bad and I shouldn't have so many.
Then I asked him, why the phone app is not protected and treated special compare to other apps (Music, Email,…).
He answered that Apple could give preference to one specific app. He added that all apps must be treated equal. I was surprised because the very first use of an iPhone is … the phone !
I felt unheard when I tried to explained that the Music app is not very useful in case of emergency…😢
