Wow, this is awesome. I had the same thing happen to me a few days ago. Mine was stolen. But what I was hoping for was for someone at apple to know when my iPod is connected to a computer, and somehow like disable it, and tell whoever it is to return my rather expensive iPod to me, and give them my address. That would be sick. is that possible to do? I want to get my iPod back. I really loved that thing.

I have no faith in the police what so ever. My home was burglarized in May 06 and my 15gb iPod was stolen, gave them the S/N of the iPod, an iBook, and several other electronics. Nothing has been done, or we haven't been contacted yet about anything. Then later, maybe August, my 6gb Green Mini iPod went missing from my purse! W-t-f?

Apple should at least be more concerned with stolen property, especially laptops since they're so much more money than an iPod and they're easily noticed. Like having a page where you enter your S/N to report it stolen and perhaps a password as well to verify its the real owner, and then wait for it to pop up in an Apple Certified reseller or a repair shop. It can't be that hard to setup nor would people complain about giving Apple the information they would need for this to work. It would truly be wonderful if the person(s) who stole our Apple electronics took it in to a repair shop to be wiped (the iBook had a pword on it), and when the technician/sales associate enters in the S/N along with the passphrase or something, it would come up as stolen.

Honestly I hope Apple is threatened to have this type of program started. Not everyone can shell out $250 for a new iPod when theirs was just stolen! I hate their way of thinking that if its stolen, we'll just buy another, some people probably do that but I can't. >:[

With respect, everyone who posts here that their iPod has been stolen says the same thing (strange how no one ever asks for this feature before their iPod goes missing!), but can you imagine how many iPods are stolen worldwide every year? And what about those that are just lost? What about those that are legitimately sold on places such as eBay? What about ones that are given away (such as me giving an older iPod to another member of my family to use on a different computer)?

What about having your computer hacked and someone intentionally disabling your iPod just for the fun of it?

What about those mischievous folks who are in dispute with someone else and who want to cause trouble for others by having their iPods disabled? You know the kind of thing, you give an iPod to your boy/girlfriend as a present, then split up and......well you know where I'm going with this.

The possibilities of abusing a system like are suggested are endless, and if Apple were to implement this procedure it would be an administrative and logistical nightmare, not to mention any legal ramifications.
