Activity app on watch going crazy

I updated the software on my watch yesterday. Now activity shows that I exercised for 2,238 minutes yesterday and stood for 24 hours. Today so far it shows that I have exercised for 341 minutes and have stood for 10 hours, as of noon. History prior to yesterday still OK. What can I do to fix?

Hi

Whilst I can't say why that has happened, the following steps may help to stop erroneous data from being recorded:

If you are sharing an Apple ID with another user, then stop doing so.

  • For Activity tracking and reporting and various other features and services to work as intended, each person should each have a separate Apple ID and be signed in accordingly on their own devices.

If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone and Apple Watch with any available software updates, starting with your iPhone (begin by making a backup):

Check your Health settings:

  • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Health.
  • Check that your personal information is accurate.
  • If the setting for Wheelchair currently states "Not Set", then change it to "Yes" or "No" as appropriate.

If you have ever previously (not necessarily recently) used any third-party fitness tracking, sleep tracking or heart rate monitoring apps, check whether there is an active or paused session within any of them.

  • If there is, then end that session from within that app on your Apple Watch.
  • If in doubt, it may help to remove any such third-party apps from your Apple Watch, at least temporarily.

Close certain apps and then restart (normally) both your iPhone and your Apple Watch:

If the issue persists, then t may help to unpair and re-pair your Apple Watch:

If the issue still persists, then I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:

Perhaps restarting your watch will make it less activity zealous!

Restart your Apple Watch

  1. Press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider.
  2. Drag the slider to turn off your device.
  3. After your watch turns off, press and hold the side button again until you see the Apple logo.

If your Apple Watch is charging, take it off the charger first. When your watch is charging, you can't restart it.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. Apple support did a diagnostics and it isn't in my hardware. Suggested I unpair using set up as new watch. Activity is holding steady at 341 minutes of exercise so at least it isn't going up anymore, but then it held steady all day yesterday also and showed the 1,428 minutes for yesterday this morning. Will have to see what it says tomorrow about today. Have appointments tomorrow for one hour watch class at Apple so if not fixed we will be at Apple to inquire about it.
