i message & facetime dont owrk on new macbook pro 2017

I just bought my 2017 macbook pro with high sierra a couple months ago and have never been able to get the facetime or imessage to work? it keeps saying " an error occurred during activation try again"

any help please. my 5 day old iphone X works fine. i can facetime my kids on their ipads no problem, but i cannot on my laptoCan anybody help me?

MacBook Pro TouchBar and Touch ID, macOS High Sierra (10.13.2)
