Emptying Trash

Hi there,

A friend has a MacBook Air. She is running out of space. She has been trying to empty her trash. But it is not emptying. It comes up to a window "secure empty trash". But when that option is clicked that window vanishes in a bit and the Trash remains as it is.

Can someone please offer a solution.

MacBook Pro, iOS 7.0.6
