Question

Need disk space, Storage says 17GB movies

Hi,

Can you please help me?

I am running a MACBook Air from 2015 OS X El Capitan 10.11.6

I was running out of disk space, so I have been cleaning out my MACBook

and, when I click on About This Mac, and Storage, it says that I have 16.89GB of movies

I went through all my files and I don't have 16.89GB of movies and

I can't figure out why it is saying this, and if it is possible that I have a hidden ghost

file on my computer.

Do any of you have any idea how I can find the 16.89GB of movies?

and, how do I remove this?

See if you can find the file(s) using one of these programs. If you go Finder/View/Show Path Bar, it will show you where it is located.

EasyFind – Spotlight Replacement

Find Any File

Try re-indexing Spotlight by excluding your hard drive and then remove it.

Thank you for your reply.

I tried that, and don't have any movies on my computer, only videos I have taken

at various family functions, and NOT that many to be honest.

My movie folder, located in my Home folder is empty.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I did as you suggested and got Easyfind, and I searched .AVI, .MOV, and .MP4

Under MP4, I found over 500 items of various sizes from 2.3MB to 51.3KB

and MOST of the files are library/application support/Skype/justa-my username/media_messaging/emo_cache_v2

so far that is the largest number of movie files I have found

I can't seem to find any other files that might be causing this.

Do you think it is the 500 Skype emo_cache_v2 that is causing this?

If so, can I remove them?

What is the best way to delete these?

and is there another type of movie file I should search for?

Hi Julie,

Thank you for your reply, I tried that many times with various search terms

and found nothing.

As I mentioned above, I downloaded Easyfind, and I searched .AVI, .MOV, and .MP4

Under MP4 I found a bunch of Skype files are located as such:

library/application support/Skype/justa-my username/media_messaging/emo_cache_v2

Do you know what this is, or how to remove these?

and IF I can remove them safely?

I would start by looking for movies in iTunes, or in the Movies folder of your home directory.

Use Spotlight Search to find the move(s)....or use FINDER.
