Why does iTunes say device is unrecognizable when trying to sync or update?

Are you using an actual Apple Brand USB cord... Lightneing USB. Like the Apple USB cord that you got with your device? If you use other USB cords (NON-APPLE,like a generic or cheaper brand IPhone USB cable) I’ve realized that when I use my other two cords(NON APPLE) a thing pops up saying same thing
