My track pad has stopped clicking but is still responsive to dragging etc. Any inspiration would be gratefully received. Thank you

The battery has been dying for some time so that's probably the answer. It's an old Macbook Pro and Apple tell me it's obsolete! Tried taking the back off this afternoon to see if we could get to the trackpad once the battery was removed but couldn't remove all the specialist screws so defeated. I think I may be heading towards a new machine. Thanks so much for your response.

What computer do you have? How old is it? Can you successfully "tap to click"? (System preferences, trackpad). Aside from (a) broken trackpad, (b) debris jamming trackpad, I can only think of (c) swollen battery. If (c), you should replace your battery and that might fix it. Is your battery working normally?
New battery fitted today and trackpad now working perfectly. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and helping me to get a bit more life out of this machine before I replace it. Amazing to see how swollen the old battery was when we removed it. Kind regards Jackie
