Try removing Facebook website data again and test.
Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and website data > Manage Website Data
This is a test.
Download and install Safari Technology Preview.
This is a freestanding beta version of Safari.
Unlike Safari, this can be uninstalled any time you wish.
https://developer.apple.com/safari/technology-preview/
Test the video.
Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items. Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History…. The down side is it clears all cookies. Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site. Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db and move it to the trash.
Go to Safari Preferences/Extensions and turn all extensions off. Test. If okay, turn the extensions on one by one until you figure out what extension is causing the problem.

If that doesn't work, try running this program in your normal user account , then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy Report” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.
I got as far as "select your user/home folder" but couldn't locate it?

I would try dominic's answer. For future reference, your user/home folder appears in Finder's Sidebar under Favorites. It looks like a house and has your name next to it. If you don't see it, go to Finder/Preferences/Sidebar/Favorites. It is the last one in that section. Check it to see it in the Sidebar.
If the above doesn't work, try restarting Safari with the shift key held down. Try going to Safari/Preferences/Websites and uncheck all Plug-ins. Quit and reopen Safari. If Safari works normally, recheck them one at a time until you find the problem. Quit and reopen Safari after checking each one.
Does this happen when you watch non-game videos?
You mentioned Facebook game earlier.
Playing video game is a CPU/GPU intensive activity.
Sometimes this may require additional resources like power from battery.
I have tried https://developer.apple.com/safari/technology-preview/ I still have the same issue
Hi Dominic23
I Uninstalled Trusteer Rapport/Endpoint but I still have the same problem?
Hi Eric
I tried Dominic's suggestion
I Uninstalled Trusteer Rapport/Endpoint but I still have the same problem?
Facebook > Settings > Videos > Autoplay
Turn it off and test.
tried this but no change - I did notice that after the crash the browser window has shrunken by about 1cm at the bottom of the screen
I unchecked all plug-ins - still have the same problem :-(
Try turning off Internet Plugins temporarily and then try.
I would replace the battery as soon as possible.
Declining battery health can have an impact on playing videos.
Best.
This happens even when the macbook is plugged into a mains electric supply
