can siri play and pause music hands free?

I would like to be able to use Siri to play music and pause and resume/play.

It seems that I can start a song and then pause it, but when I try to play or resume, it presents me with a button to open the Apple Music app. When I press the button, it opens the Apple Music app and I have to manually resume the song. This is not helpful.

Can Siri control apps at all? It seems like this is all at the OS level and it want to display the stupid buttons that make me use my hands when that is what I'm trying to avoid doing.

It would be nice if there was community for Siri.
