Question: How to see what needs a software update before requesting update

I just upgraded my OS to 10.9.5 on iMac 3.06 GHz, Intel Core i3. I lost access to iPhoto, was told it has been replaced by Photo and will get installed via an update. Ran the first update (I'm not used to not having a choice about what I update). Now the thing tells me I have one more update, but won't tell me what needs it. It lists all the applications it updated last night.

? How do I find out what it wants to update BEFORE I do the update?

? How do I get the application that replaces iPhoto ??

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

iPhoto certainly still works on OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks.

I use iPhoto on Mavericks.

See my post reply at the very end of this post for links to all the needed iPhoto updates needed for OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks.

Do you have an already installed and working iPhoto version that was already on your Mac?

If yes, You CAN update iPhoto using those downlad links I sent to you!!!!

The updates are not part of Mac App Store, but separate downloadable links, but your Mac needs an already working version of iPhoto to use these upgrades!

If you do not have a working version of iPhoto, you CAN STILL purchase an iLife 11 disc, install the version of iPhoto that comes on that disc, then perform the series of iPhoto updates I linked for you.

Older versions of iPhoto still work on OS X 10.9.5!

I am NOT even sure the newer Photos app for OS X was EVEN made available to OS X 10.9 Mavericks users!

The new Photos app became available when OS X 10.10 Yosemite was released.

I don’t think the newer Photos app works on OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks.

Also, there is STILL a much newer version of iPhoto which still runs on both OS X 10.10 Yosemite AND OS X 10.11 El Capitàn because I still use iPhoto on OS X 10.11 El Cap, as well.
