Apple TV will not switch or stay on US App Store

I have a few Apple TV's (not 4K) and I'm a US iTunes owner. I'm currently living in Italy and I would like to view all my purchased movies or download apps that require a US iTunes App Store, but my Apple TV won't switch. I do not have an Italian iTunes account or have purchased anything from the Italian App Store, but of all the movies I've purchased, only a handful show and the titles are in Italian. I have used a DNS service and also a VPN shared from my laptop and it still doesn't seem to work. Any help in locking in the US store would be appreciated.
