Collaboration with same Apple ID?

I know I can share an iCloud Drive file with another Apple ID to collaborate, so we can both work on it together. What happens if I work on a file on two of my machines with the SAME Apple ID (if I forget to close down Numbers for example). Will collaboration work here, so no data is lost?

It should, provided you saved a copy of the updated file and have iCloud Drive enabled on both computers.
