I want to cancel my free trial of Dropbox and avoid any charges for renewal

You can use Dropbox at the free 2GB level for as long as you like. The next level is iTB and is $9.99 per month should you choose to advance to that.

Talk to DropBox. It isn't an Apple product. There is no renewal of a Free Trial. There is a request to sign up or sign off.
