how do you restart your i phone when you have forgotten th id and password when phone was set up

How do you reset an i phone5 when you have forgotten the id and password when the phone was set up. This is my wifes phone

iPhone 5s, iOS 5.0.1

You follow the directions in this link: If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support

Next time, write the passcode down somewhere where you can refer to it should this happen again.
