Does Siri have a problem using the internal mic if I have an external speaker plugged in?

I have an iMac 27inch macOS Sierra 10.12.6. I’m trying to access Siri verbally but it doesn’t seem to be working. I have Voice Feedback ON, Mic Input = Internal Mic, Keyboard Shortcut OFF. I haven’t been able to get response using voice commands. Wondering if my external audio speakers could have some effect or if I’m missing something.
