Can't get rid of obnoxious page numbers

I'm creating a fun, illustrated book for my husband for Christmas. Now that it's written and illustrated, I'm transferring the JPEGs into pages in iBooks author and it's quickly turning into a nightmare. iBooks and Apple have to micromanage everything and I tell it to turn off numbering and it just ignores me. It's toggled off on every individual page on the inspector, since it's on by default because Apple knows best, but iBooks will not let the numbers go away, so in my instant alpha illustrations there are distracting numbers no matter what I try. HELP! I'm running out of time and patience. Thanks.

The page numbers are built in to the layouts of the templates. There is a different layout for every page type in the template. The page numbers are in text box containers.

All you have to do is show the Layouts (View>Show Layouts), and then go to the layout used. If you select the page, there is normally a white check mark by the layout used. It helps to Show Layout Boundaries too, so you can see the containers. Delete the text boxes and Apply Changes. All pages using that layout will update.

Do this for all template layouts used in the book. I added an illustrated screenshot below.
