No space on iMac HD so can't even delete any files to free up space. System is taking up 999 GB. Does anyone have an answer to this problem.
iMac, macOS High Sierra (10.13.1)
1. try booting into the recovery disk
2. pull up a terminal
3. use the command "du" to try to find the culprit.
change into the directory on the full hard disk (you may need to figure out the right path since your terminal will be using the recovery partition as it's home directory.)
cd someDirectory
du -sh ./*
will tell you the sizes of all the directories in the current directory. Pick the biggest one and change to that directory.
repeat.
You can then delete the files that are the problem. What they are from will probably become evident
