Swipe to answer buggy

Hi

Today someone called me on my iPhone 7. I took it out of my pocket and it asked me to swipe to answer. Well, I tried that. No response. After a few frantic attempts at swiping it finally responded. This is a serious bug with the software - obviously, of course, it is a phone, and I need to be able to answer calls. How do I fix this problem?
