Cannot invite family members to HomeKit

Hi all,

Since yesterday I have a problem with our HomeKit system. My wife and son cannot use the HomeKit from the Home app on their iPhones anymore.

We are using my ipad as the HomeKit hub. In their Home app they got a message that they are not connected to the HomeKit system.

I tried everything without success, and therefore finally I removed my house and started from scratch.

Now however a have a new problem. Activation goes OK and I can add all accessories without problems.

When I however try to invite my wife and son in the Home app, I get a message that their AppleID is not registered at iCloud. Very strange because their iPhones are logged to iCloud and work without problems. I tried to login to iCloud using their credentials - also no problem.

Do you maybe have (or had) similar problems and know how to solve it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Greetings,

Irek

Apple update Its article for Homekit sharing and write that device need to be at least on 11.2.5 to share works.... bleh!! 😮 Use the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support. So my wife iPhone 5 is now obsolete.... programmed obsolescence.

Finally fixed the problem.

1. I created a dummy "Home", invite my wife by apple ID

2. my wife's iphone received invitation, accept it

3. go to my Home (The real one), cancel the invitation that my wife haven't received it at all, and then re-invite her using apple ID.

4. my wife's iphone received invitation, accept it

5. delete the dummy "home", done!

daughter's phone - iphone 6s, ios 11.2.5 - cannot invite her from my iphone X ios 11.2.5. Same error, not registered at icloud. funny because her email is @icloud.com. She has two factor enabled.

Not funny that this doesn't work. Had no trouble inviting my wife's iPhone X, or my other daughter's iPhone 6s.

Are we just waiting for another software update to fix this? Do we know?

I fix my problem by deleting all the devices in Home on my iPhone X and then flipping to my wife’s iPhone X as the starting point. From her phone I then shared to me and was able to accept invitation. I then added devices to her phone and they showed up on mine. No idea why it didn’t work the other way around. I’ve been on and off the phone with Apple engineering for a week with no resolution. This was the only workaround I was able to find

I have been using ihome devices with no trouble sharing for a long time - I think 2 years - with no problems until the last week or so. I have tried everything that I can think of to get this to work on my wife's ipad mini and iphone 8 plus. I has worked on those for a long time with no problems, but not now. I'm kind of tired of seeing the Apple guy say it's fixed every once in a while when it obviously isn't.

HUGE thanks, RoadKingMacGuy.

I installed an iDevice socket using my account and sent an invite to my mom so she can control lights with her iPad. She was checking Mail app...cause, hey, it,s an email..to no avail. Sure enough, the invite was waiting in the Home app.

Hey Apple, how's about putting a small blurb instructing folks that the invite is sent to the Home app and not Mail!
