Time Machine Backup

Hi 🙂

I have a MBP, early 2010. It's running Lion. I want to upgrade to Mountain Lion and eventually up to Sierra. Can I use Time Machine to make a bootable copy of Lion that I can use to restore if the upgrade to Mountain Lion does not work out?
