Yamaha RX-V377 and Apple TV 4K

I am having trouble connecting my Apple TV 4K through my receiver. If I plug the Apple TV into the receiver, I am unable to get 4K and HDR. But if I plug directly into the tv and use an optical cable, I am able to get sound and 4K. Is there any way I can fix this to just go through the receiver instead of this roundabout way?
