Apple TV 2nd Generation - remote not working

We got a new wifi provider, however remote on the Apple TV Generation 2 doesn't appear to work.

I've tried to re-pair the remote, and when i click menu on the remote i see the light on the apple tv flash, however I'm unable to use the remote to navigate to settings in order to change the network settings.
