How do I get rid of graphic boxes that are stuck

I am creating a book document and in one chapter I have a couple of boxes that won't go away. I've tried covering them with photos, but that doesn't work well. They aren't like a rule around a photo they somehow are stuck. I'm working High Sierra, which I thought was the most recent and my MacBook Pro is from 2013.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), iOS 10.3.1, I thought I had the latest

Telling us you are using High Sierra, and what Mac you have, does not tell us what version of Pages you are using. You are using Pages?

Menu > Pages > About Pages

Also tell us what and where these boxes are. In the text, separate, in the background, around the text, around tables?

What do they look like? Do they have small crosses in the corners? Then they are locked.

Where did they come from? Did you create them? Did you import something?
