My appleid works on my laptop but not my desk top. I have not used the apple id on the desktop for several months. Since then I changed phones. How do I over come this problem.

two factor authentication is not working for my desktop. As I do not get the text message on my phone. Is this because I have a different apple id on my phone?

Yes. If you're trying to login on the desktop, in order to get the two-factor authentication on the phone, then the iPhone needs to be logged in with the same ID you wish to login to the desktop with.
