10.13.2 upgrade fail

Is there an official patch to the Security Update 2017-001? I tried to install it on my mid-2010 MacBook Pro on blind trust and it broke my machine, froze on the reboot. I had to reinstall, fortunately that worked. I dare not not attempt the patch on my iMac until I do a lot more research and get some warm fuzzies that Apple is addressing the issue.
