Web Camera Audio Suddenly Scratchy

I have been using a Logitech Quick Cam Pro 9000 for many years now to do FaceTime etc. but since the latest patch update to Mac OS 10.12.6, the audio is coming across as very scratchy to the person I'm video chatting with. Is there anyway I can fix this - I've tried changing USB ports I plug into but no difference. The video still works just fine.
