syncing photos with mac question.

Hi guys,
The photos library on my mac is 151 GB. I synced my entire photo library with iPhone. I see all the pics have been transfered over, however the photo library size on the iphone is like 25GB.

why is there such a big discrepancy? are the photos being compressed when i sync my mac with the iPhone?

thank you! is it the same case when i sync with an ipad too?
Curious because if i ever want to order prints, i'll make sure to use my mac instead of my iphone or ipad.
