Question on Mail files

I am trying to fix a problem on my MacBook Air. It has been suggested I delete and add back my gmail account as one possible solution.

I have a lot of emails from my gmail account filed in file in the 'On My Mac' mailboxes in Mail. If I delete the gmail account, will the emails filed in those folders be deleted? I don't want to lose them.

I do not have the emails in question stored online in my gmail account.

Using Sierra 10.12.6

If it is a Gmail IMAP account, then deleting the account in Mail will not cause the loss of all your emails stored on the server.
