Does anyone knows why there is been that issue with the black screen and spinning wheel? And a easy way around it?

After spending hours fixing the black screen spinning wheel:

Fixing it by simply installing the update of iOS 11.2

But it took a awful lot of time and headaches as every 30 to 40 seconds the iPhone was going into the black screen spinning wheel mode and to start from again...

I'm curious to know why this happened, as well as if someone had an easier way around than the one I had to go through?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 11.2

"Something in the iOS time system is causing local notifications to consume so much memory they crash springboard, the iPhone and iPad windowing manager." [Source:iMore]

"If you can't update, turn off notifications for all the apps on your device, then update your device to iOS 11.2 (...) You can also update your device using iTunes." [Source: Apple]
