Question: My imac won't connect to the internet

My husband has brought home his 2007 iMac from work. It was connected to the college he worked at intranet. The person who changed all the settings on it has left his job and none at his old college can help him - now the iMac won't connect to our internet. He has no idea what to do and has phoned apple to be told they can't help because the model is too old. He's looked stuff up, tried different Isp's. Looked in the settings etc but has NO idea what to do to make it connect - the warning that comes up says 'Ask your administrator to look at it'.
Can anyone help as Apple don't seem interested and there is nothing wrong with the Mac!
