2016 MacBook Pro speaker pop and rattling

Using a 2016 15" MBP.

I just hit play on a youtube video and there was a loud popping sound followed by repeated loud rattling/crackling on the left side. I closed the lid, which stopped it. I reopened it and the rattling is over, but I am worried a speaker has blown out.

I tried testing by shifting the balance from left to right. When I shift to the left speaker, it just sounds like a crappy single speaker. When I shift to the right speaker, the sound is VERY muddled and higher frequencies are hard to make out.

Before I take it in, I just want to make sure this isn't just the normal sound distribution (as I've never tested full left-to-right before). Should both sides sound the same when the balance is shifted to them completely?

Also found it strange that the popping was on the left but the right sounds off.

Thanks.
