How you you bypass "this connection is not private" in Safari?

Hello ...

I am using macOS 10.13.1 and Safari 11.0.1. Since I upgraded from Sierra, I can't seem to be able to access HTTPS websites using the IP address.

For example I want to access the config GUI from my router:

  1. Open Safari and navigate to https://192.168.0.1
  2. Safari responds with "Connection is not private"
  3. I click "Details" -> "Open Website" -> "Visit Website" then I have to enter the password for my local admin user.
  4. The site reloads and again I see the message "Connection is not private".
  5. Wash ... Rinse ... Repeat

How do I get around this?

Thanks a bunch.

You do not seem to get the point.

When you purchase an SSL certificate and you install it on for example your router the certificate is valid for the URL:

https://myhost.com

If you access the device from your LAN with the internal IP for example

https://10.1.1.1

Safari used to warn you that there was a certificate mismatch but you always had the option to grant an exception. This does not work anymore because when trying to define an exception you end up in a loop.

Now, as a sys admin I have to refine all LAN connections from

https://10.1.1.1 to

http://10.1.1.1

Thanks to Apple's flawed programming.

I hope this clarifies the issue for you.

Hi,

same problem here. We have installed official SSL's on servers and other devices and we have had no problems accessing them via the LAN IP if we granted an exception. Now, after the latest Safari and security updates granting exceptions appears to be broken and I have to re-define all internal links.

I start to hate Apple's over-the-top nannying security policies.

My advice: keep old browser versions !!!
