Restoring from iCloud Drive

Hello,

My Mac crashed and now I am trying to restore files from iCloud Drive on a pristine machine. iCloud Drive desktop and documents pre-crash are available in the finder as iCloud Drive. My question is whether the correct way is to copy those onto my local desktop and documents folders and then turn on iCloud Drive on the "new" machine.

Thanks,

Manish
