MacBook Pro Has Black Bar on Screen

I have a 1/4 inch black bar that just started showing up on the left side of the screen. It blends in with the border and looks like the the screen has been shifted to the left, but the bar is above. App windows go underneath it (the annoying aspect of this). The Apple menu is partly obscured when trying to access.


It does not show on my external display when I extend (although if the laptop is open, you can see it on its screen and exhibits the same behavior. I have checked to see if the screen was zoomed but all settings seem fine. I have tried switching resolutions, but no luck.
