poor picture and video quality on icloud

Hi all

I've a problem: Synchronizing my pictures and videos from my iphone with icloud results in a very small file size (around 700kb for a picture or around 12 MB for a 30 sec 4k-video) and therefore in a poor quality on icloud. I don't have any issue when I forward a picture directly as an attachment from my Iphone. The size of the file is around 2MB then. Does somebody know what the problem could be?

Thanks,

Phil

Thanks for your fast reply, Eric. I've found the solution: iOS 11 uses a very size-efficient codec for videos and pictures by default, resulting in a dramatically decreased file size (which can be changed in the camera settings). When you send a picture from the Iphone directly as an attachment, iOS seems to be decoding the file on-the-fly, therefore the file size is larger.
