no insert cursor or typing on blank page. Running Sierra 10.12.6
I am trying to create a Pages document using iWork 08 on an iMac running )S 10.12.6 (Sierra) I can select font and size but no text is recorded when I type.

You probably have opened a blank Layout template and need to add a Textbox on your page.
Better is you open a Word Processing template.
The other thing is compatibility. I am not sure if Pages '08 runs on Sierra. If it does you should use the latest version which is Pages '08 3.03 from memory. Why are you still using Pages '08? Pages '09 was by far the best version.
