Did 10.13.x break external MIDI?

Folks -

I recently decommissioned my aging Mac Pro (well - retasked it), and replaced it with a Mac Mini I had from 2012. It's an I7 with 16G. Anyway, when I fired up the 'new' system in the studio, none of the external MIDI was working.

More specifically:

Roland/Edirol UM-880 (usb to 8x8 midi interface) - not working

Roland/Edirol UM-2 (usb to 2x2 midi interface) - not working

2 x Fireface 800 (RME) audio works but MIDI - not working

Now the interesting thing is that my Akai MPK-261 (controller keyboard -> USB) - works

Also, my Kurzweil PC3K7 works (synth -> USB)

The only thing I can come up with after scratching my head is that maybe the first 3 units are not CLASS COMPLIANT (they require drivers - which I have loaded). The two that are working appear to be CLASS COMPLIANT.

So - do I roll back to 10.12? Is anyone else having external MIDI difficulties?

Thanks folks!

Couple of things to try....

1/ open audio midi setup (midi and create a new configuration - verify you see the midi devices or not)....

2/ If the above doesn't work - make sure you download the latest drivers.....

3/ If the drivers are older, you may need to disable SIP ( Goggle this to see how to do it) and see if that corrects any of the issues...

YES! I used to have El Capitan as my OS and I used Logic Pro to control my two external MIDI sound modules (Roland JV-1010's). I imported a file called jv1010.iso I got from the internet which I imported into the MIDI Environment, and voila!--I could completely control all the different sound banks and patches with ease from within Logic. Once I upgraded to High Sierra, everything got messed up. No matter what I do to try to tweak the MIDI Environment settings, I get no results. The other issue is that I have an intermittent problem with latency (significant latency of up to 10-20 seconds) with my MIDI input keyboard, which I never used to have before. I can have a software instrument track open or an external MIDI track open and hit a note on my keyboard and have to wait 20 seconds until I hear the note played. I have played with the latency settings to try to compensate, but when it is is a problem, the only solution that works is to shut everything down and reboot the entire system (the Mac Pro and everything connected to it). This solution works about 50% of the time.
