Landscape document will only print in portrait

I have prepared an A4 document in landscape format, but whenever I try to print it (including converting to pdf), the print preview changes to portrait format. This applies to both of my two printers (Canon MG7150 and HP LaserJet 1022). In previous years at this time - ie, with earlier versions of Mac OS and Pages - I have been able to print in landscape without difficulty. In the printer menus, the 'Layout direction' buttons are greyed out. Help welcome!

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

When you post a question state specifically what versions of Pages and macOS you are referring to.

"…earlier versions of Mac OS and Pages" tells us nothing of both before and after.

Your tag says Mac OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) which I am guessing is not the case.

My other guess is that you are using Pages 6.3.1 on High Sierra because we have had similar posts with similar problems. But that is just a guess.

Nearly every System upgrade lately from Apple seems to break the printer drivers and you need to wait for driver upgrades. There is also a possibility that you have a double negative in your page orientation, size. Portrait is an orientation not a shape. You can have a wide portrait Page Setup. Landscape in the printer dialogue simply means that it is rotated 90° as it is printed.

As I am a computer user rather than a computer enthusiast or specialist, I do not keep a record of what system or application updates come along and when they are installed, and so I do not know what versions of Mac OS and Pages were on my laptop a year ago. I instal updates as Apple indicates they are available, so far as they are compatible with my machines.

That makes your guess about Pages 6.3.1 and High Sierra correct, and so I followed up your suggestion and checked Canon and HP for upgraded drivers. HP do not offer one today for High Sierra, but Canon have one issued in October this year, and that has solved the problem for that machine. Thank you.

(Re conversion to pdf, it is of course possible to do a direct export from Pages to pdf. I had forgotten that.)

We don't expect you to remember what you did a year ago, but you know what you have now and some idea of what you had roughly before. Your tag is no help.

You can print just about everything from everywhere to pdf.

It has been one of the great features of OSX. Good you fixed the driver issue with Canon. They must get quite frustrated with Apple. Why Apple has not got its printers fully abstracted from the software is an unsolved question.
