Pioneer External DVD player BDR-XU03 not recognized

I have a Mac Pro 2013, with the newest system update on it and a pioneer drive BDR-XU03 with the latest firmware update on it.

The MAC won't recognize older CD or DVD disks using the external pioneer drive.

TESTING:

I took my pioneer drive BDR- XU03 to work and plugged it into a mac running System 10.11.6 and everything worked perfectly. No problems.

I took my pioneer drive and plugged it into a PC laptop, and no problems.

I took my CDs and DVDs and put them into a Windows 7 PC drive and they worked perfectly.

PROBLEM:

I took the same CDs and DVDs and came back to my home computer, and they are not recognized, the pioneer drive runs a bit, the just stops cold. It won't be recognized, eject or start up again. I have to reboot the computer to get the disk out.

I need my older CDs and DVDs to read on my mac.... the pioneer drive works when plugged into both a Windows 7 machine and a Windows 10 laptop BUT not on my Mac Pro with the latest system update.

HELP.
