That is typical of an airport. They do not support UPNP which is essential to the operation of voice for example during games.
If you cannot reset the airport.. is it actually the main router of your network? Press the reset button on the back for 10sec and the airport should reset.. you will see a rapidly flashing front LED.. however this will not fix the problem.
You need to either setup port forwarding or DMZ. see
It is much much easier to use a standard UPNP router.
