mac desktop issues with os sierra

I have a 2012 Mac. When I updated to the os High Sierra, everything slowed way down, my messages don't show names as it used to, now it's phone numbers, like it hasn't all connected. Some apps aren't opening at all, but when I try to quit them, it says they're open. So many issues with this new update. What do I do?
