Question: Macbook Pro 2011 screen goes black every time I close the screen, since updating to High Sierra

Im running a MacBook Pro 2011 17inch and every since I upgraded to high Sierra its been having issues. Every time I close the screen and open it back up the screen goes black although the Mac is still running. Than I have to shut it down and restart it just to get it running again. Its very annoying. Also, my screen brightness keys aren't working either. Any idea's on how to fix it? I'd appreciate the help.

Try it in safe mode

Also, be sure to test it in another user. If it happens in both safe mode and another user, then you should reinstall macOS.
