Thank you for sending the links. Will I lose much of what I have on my phone though? I know I will lose all my music but I’m worried I will lose a lot more? It’s a completely new computer which has not yet got iTunes even downloaded, I’m worried that if I connect my phone to this computer I will lose everything
Hi
I haven't used my pc For backup for 3 years Almost everything can be done over your wifi.
Go to iCloud make sure iCloud back up is then backup iPhone over your wifi
When you charge an iphone /ipad it automatically backs up to iCloud Over your wifi
If you need to restore iPhone or get a new one set up over wifi when it asks if you want to use iCloud backup Say yes to get your apps and data back on new iPhone.
Go to i books download ios 11 user guide &iPhone guide for your model iPhone both are free
Cheers

This support document explains what is backed up using iCloud or iTunes.
I am not a Windows user, but I do not believe that it will erase your phone totally.
After the backup you should still have all your data, files, music, photos, ... on your old iPhone.
I really appreciate your help, thank you
