Lots of blank photos after recent upgrade and restore

I recently completely backed up my iPhone 7 on a MacBook . Got myself the new iphoneX.

Wiped my iPhone 7 and then proceeded to transfer all of data from back up onto new phone with a ‘ restore from back up’ option.

Everything appeared to go smoothly except I on my camera roll I am missing about a years worth of photos. (Photos taken afterwards appear, and all photos before appear) They must be there , as there is a thumbnail for them , but they appear blank.

Another point to mention is that a number of the photos are now actually very blurred.

Tried a number of ways to retrieve these photos , wondered if anyone had any clues ?
