Accessing Podcasts on new Macbook that are stored on other Mac

I use a MacPro as my main computer. I have thousands of old Podcasts episodes (many no longer available in iTunes store) on there that I sync to my iPhone using iTunes to pick specific ones (because having them all on my phone would take up too much room). I just bought a Macbook for traveling but according to Apple support there is no way to get those same episodes on there selectively (as there are too many to put them all on there) while I am traveling so that I can sync my phone with itunes on the Macbook.

i.e. pick some episodes to listen to one day, then delete those once listened to and import other episodes to the Macbook while I am on the road the next day.

I tried Home Sharing and can see that I can import things from my library but only when the 2 macs are on the same network- that is useless to me as if they are on the same network I can just plug my phone into the MacPro anyway.

Does anyone know a work around for this or alternative App that could do it?

I'm sure there's an elegant solution somewhere, but in situations of this type I tend to just drag the files in question to iCloud Drive and then access them on other devices from there. (Technically I drag them to the desktop, which is set to copy to iCloud Drive, so the files are easy to locate and to delete when I'm done with them.) I do this because I'm forgetful and kind of lazy.
